QUESTION & ANSWER FORUM: Cavesson Reins, 2007
return to the Question & Answer Forum

QUESTION:
My question is: if using a cavesson instead of a bridle, does one use the reins in the same way as one uses them with a bridle?

ANSWER:
You can use the cavesson reins the same way you would use the snaffle reins. When you try it on numerous horses you will find that there are some who are soft in a snaffle and resistant against the cavesson, and there are some who seem to prefer the cavesson over the bridle. Ultimately, each horse should be equally soft in a bit as well as in a cavesson. When you encounter resistance to an aid, the horse still needs to be educated that he is expected to yield to that pressure, and he has to be enabled to flex the joint in question through gymnastic exercises.
