Egon von Neindorff on Landgraf in the Canter Volte
This picture illustrates very nicely the uphill canter that originates in well flexed haunches, continues with a swinging and carrying back that transmits the impulsion and collection from behind to the neck which rises in a beautiful natural elevation into the rider's hand. Clearly visible is the lightness of the rein contact. Both curb reins are joined in the left hand and remain slightly slack, while the right hand carries only the right bridoon rein. Even when riding in a double bridle, the bridoon should do the main work, while the curk is used only occasionally and then very briefly to achieve a momentary deeper flexion of the haunches.

A typical Neindorff picure. Impulsion, straightness, and collection in combination with total relaxation are evident in the horse, while the rider shows and ideally stretched seat - self-carriage in a sense - with the deepest knees and heels possible. This results in an increased muscle tone in his thighs which lends the rider suppleness, stability, and control, while it gives the horse's back room to arch and carry the rider at the same time.

Reitinstitut Egon v. Neindorff, Karl Mikolka on the Andalusian Stallion, Jaguar, in the Passage This picture subsequently became the trademark symbol of the Reitinstitut Egon von Neindorff. It is one of the most inspirational photographs of all time. Fire and calmness, impulsion and relaxation, exuberance and collection, all find their expression in it. The rider with his deep and quiet seat stays in the background so that the horse is able to take center stage as the star performer, which is one of the defining characteristics of classical dressage.
