Lightness and elegance are the two defining characteristics of this picture. Both horses are ridden on a "silken thread," which is possible only with a strong, deep, and supple seat.

Otto Lörke trained Kronos, the gold medal winner of the 1936 Olympic Games. Here, the two of them are shown in the piaffe. The one feature that is most conspicuous in all of Lörke's pictures is the lightness of the rein contact of his horses. His reins are always just a little slack, especially the curb reins. As a result, his horses show great impulsion and collection.
